Warm Weather Arrangements

High temperatures are forecast for the second half of this week, lasting until Friday. We know many families may be worried about how the heat could affect their child — particularly pupils with additional and sensory needs, who can find extreme weather challenging.

Keeping pupils safe and comfortable

School will remain open, and we aim to keep pupils’ usual routines going as far as possible. To help everyone stay safe and comfortable, we will be:

  • Encouraging regular drinks of water throughout the day
  • Providing access to shaded and cooler areas
  • Reducing or adapting physical and outdoor activities where needed
  • Closely monitoring pupils’ wellbeing
  • Running arts and crafts activities on Thursday and Friday afternoons in place of usual lessons

If you feel your child is better off at home

We recognise that extreme heat can bring increased dysregulation, anxiety, sensory difficulties or fatigue for some pupils. For some children, travelling to and from school can also be particularly difficult in the heat.

If you feel that staying at home would better support your child’s wellbeing this week, we completely understand. Please contact Laura Tivey to let us know, and the absence will be recorded as authorised. As always, we will work with you on an individual basis to do what is best for each child.

What to send with your child

Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and is dressed appropriately for the warm weather. If your child becomes unwell, or we have any concerns about how they are managing in the heat, we will contact you promptly.
