Dear Parents and Carers,
Hot Weather Arrangements: Wednesday 24 to Friday 26 June
As you will be aware, exceptionally high temperatures are forecast to continue until Friday 26 June. We understand that many families may be concerned about how the heat may affect their child, particularly pupils with additional needs who may find extreme weather challenging.
The school will remain open, and our aim is to maintain pupils’ usual routines as far as possible. We have measures in place to help keep pupils safe and comfortable throughout the day. These include encouraging regular hydration, providing access to shaded and cooler areas, reducing or adapting physical and outdoor activities where necessary, and closely monitoring pupils’ wellbeing.
We recognise that some pupils may experience increased dysregulation, anxiety, sensory difficulties, fatigue or challenges with emotional regulation during periods of extreme heat. For some children, travelling to and from school, or spending extended periods outside the home, may also be particularly difficult.
Although school will remain open for pupils who need to attend, due to the exceptional heat forecast we are encouraging parents and carers to keep their child at home if they feel this would better support their wellbeing. If you feel that attending school is not in your child’s best interests during this period of exceptional weather that is due to last until Friday, we completely understand. Please notify the school in the usual way, and their absence will be recorded as authorised. As always, we want to work with you on an individual basis to ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of each child.
Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school and is dressed appropriately for the weather.
If your child becomes unwell, or we have concerns about how they are managing in the heat, we will contact you promptly.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Yours sincerely,
Sam Johnson Head of Centre
